Anything else I should know?

Bring your Ontario Health Card if you have one. It isn’t required, but can make your visit more efficient.

If you have a positive result, the Pharmacist will provide you with counselling, and everything you need to know to get a confirmatory test and immediate treatment – including getting you in to see an HIV-specialty doctor right away.

You should know that people who are HIV positive live long, healthy lives with proper treatment.

The Pharmacist has received specialized training to deliver the test, and answer your questions about HIV prevention and treatment, in a caring and confidential manner. You’ll also receive guidance on programs and services in the community that can help meet your specific needs.

About the HIV Point-of-Care Test

The HIV Test offered at the 455 Bank Street Shoppers Drug Mart is a Rapid Point-of-Care Test.

This HIV Test detects HIV antibodies. It usually takes 2-4 weeks after infection for HIV antibodies to appear in the blood; in some circumstances they may not be measurable for up to three months.

At the 455 Bank Street Shoppers Drug Mart, we’ll be using the INSTI® HIV-1/HIV-2 Rapid Antibody Test by bioLytical, which is approved by Health Canada, and is an industry standard for Rapid HIV Point-of-Care Testing.
